Hello everyone,
As per request the user known as "gdog98" has asked how to confidently stay safe while browsing online. For such a question there is no simple answer as each individual has a different opinion. The main problem when a user wants to find out what security packages to use they result in finding false information due to those fake websites promoting anti-viruses who eventually get paid for promoting (the higher the company pays, the further up the security package goes in the top list). To get the best results in that question you will have to ask someone who has experience with the bad and good security packages like myself.
The first anti-virus to ever use was AVG Free addition in the year 2000, I must admit it is quiet impressive for a free anti-virus, but still does not remain to be the best to relay on, because I did get multiple viruses detected by paid anti-viruses. AVG was used for 1 year only.
After AVG, I went onto McAfee, blocked most viruses but still got a lot in especially from flash memory sticks.
After nearly giving up hope I swaped to BitDefender Internet Security v8 (now called Internet Security 2010). This intelligent piece of software passed all the tests for detecting old viruses, new viruses you name it. The best thing I liked about BitDefender is that when you insert a removable device such as CD-ROM, Memory Stick and etc. BitDefender prompts the user to Scan the removable device before opening it allowing the user to scan for any sort of virus before he/she opens it. Furthermore, it has a built-in WIFI scanner that monitors your WIFI connection that notifies you who and when someone connected to your Wireless.
To add-on to my home security I added the Free Spyware Doctor with Google Pack (now called Spyware Doctor with Anti-Virus). This software is concentrated on malwares and spywares more than any other security software out there including BitDefender.
Using both of those software packages for years now I have been virus, spyware, worm, malware (you name it) and etc for exactly 8 years now.
BitDefender isn't free yet it doesn't cost much, but in the long-run it's worth it!
Goodluck!
